Activity report

Organization: ”Mircea Eliade” Theoretical High School

Name of activity: LITERATURE CAMP

Objectives:

  1. Familiarizing students with new type of study

  2. Awareness of values of literature by students

  3. Educating the spirit of tolerance

  4. Developing students creativity

Participants:42 students, 3 libriarians and4 teachers

Short description of the activity:

            Our highschool has made a partnership with the County Library ”George BariÈ›iu” from BraÈ™ov, for carry out some activities for disavantages students from our school to prevent school dropout and decrease absenteeism.

            The Library has proposed two interesting activities for our students:

  1. IziLit – an application for Smartphone

  2. The Diary – Thge portal log to read

At the first activity libriarian presented to our  students how the application works: the

application, available for free, will inspire the user every day with a contemporary reading recomandation. The user will recieve the image of the recommended book, a short note about the story, summary informations about the author and his twitter or facebook  address. This opportunity will facilitate the dialogue between the  reader and the author.The reader will have the opportunity to share with his family and friends his reading experiences posting information on Twitter or Facebook, becoming not only consumer readers but also promoters.The selection criteria are the top of preferences among young people, top sale and romanian authors awards.

            After presentation our students have been able to download the application, choose the favorite book and found detail about it. They also were able to make a list of their favorite books.

            The second activity was aimed at promoting the written culture among young people, in in a creative form of reception and interpretation. For this purpose, was used the Valeriu BraniÈ™te*s Diary found in the special collections of the library. This is the diary of 17-18 years old young man which talks about the level of school education, the value of multicultural development, the need to develop multicultural thinking, and other interesting aspects of the era.

Our students  have been able to download the application, audio files where the contents of the log files are played back, graphic illustrations that complete the same content. Our students  resonated with the characters' lives, have been able to find out about valid values and models.

Students interacted with librarians asking about the opportunities offered.

            The last stage of the activity was visiting the library. Our students chose a book, browsed it and created a short presentation of the title or character. They also drew a scene they imagined, according with a chosen book. The whole activity was successful and the students were extremely interested about it.

Activity  Report

The aim of this camp is to make students love literature and books ,  to improve their English , to challenge them speak more. We did this activity at school ( in the garden and the classroom) . We chose two books in Turkish literature with the help of our turkish literature teacher. We divided the students into two groups and gave each of them a book. When they finished reading the books one group changed the end of the book. They thought a different end . We wanted them to think how they would finish the book if they were the writer. And we wanted the other group to choose a part from the book and act it out. 

Also we had a contract with a NGO (Isparta Youth Center) and they came to our school and had a reading activities in the classrooms.

They had different reading activities techniques  (Skimming , Scanning , Intensive and Extensive ) .They all had one reading part foreach types and disccussed on it. And they can use these while reading and aims of readings.​

Result of the activity : Our students read a book which they didn't read before. They thought in a creative way and write a different ending. They acted a part of the book.
